As the son of the renowned restaurant ‘Kiyonaka’ in Ito, his culinary skills are truly exceptional.
One of the signature dishes at ‘Kiyonaka’ is undoubtedly their tempura.
And they also serve tempura-don (tempura rice bowl), which is synonymous with the restaurant.
While the ingredients vary depending on the day, during lunchtime, you can enjoy a portion like the one in this video for just 1,200 yen!
The quality and taste you get at this price point are remarkable.
I’ve heard that they cook the rice with a little less water because the tempura sauce adds moisture. This results in rice that’s tender and easily falls apart in your mouth.
It pairs perfectly with the tempura.
Even the miso soup is meticulously prepared, with a rich and satisfying broth.
The owner can be a bit shy, and when you compliment him, he might respond with a sly smile, but deep down, he’s a kind-hearted person.
Above all, you can sense the dedication and craftsmanship he brings to his cooking.
When I visited towards the end of lunchtime, there were few customers, and I spotted a well-maintained knife that had likely just been cleaned. Even from this, you can see the level of commitment they have.
I highly recommend paying them a visit!
