Kushikatsu is one of the most unique foods in Japanese izakaya culture.
Different ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and seafood are placed on skewers, coated in batter, and deep-fried. The outside becomes crispy while the flavor of each ingredient remains inside.

Kushikatsu is also famous for one important rule:
“No double dipping in the sauce.”

At many kushikatsu restaurants, everyone shares a large container of sauce.
You dip the freshly fried skewer into the sauce only once before eating it.
Putting the skewer back into the sauce after taking a bite is considered bad manners for hygiene reasons.

If you want more sauce, you use the cabbage served on the side like a spoon to scoop up extra sauce and pour it over your kushikatsu instead.
This “no double dipping” rule is so famous that it has become a symbol of Osaka’s kushikatsu culture.

When you enter a kushikatsu restaurant, you are often greeted by the delicious aroma of frying oil and humorous signs saying, “No Double Dipping!”
It almost feels like an unwritten law of the kushikatsu world. 🍢

And you can enjoy this Osaka-style experience right here in Ito as well.

The female owner visited Osaka, fell in love with authentic kushikatsu, and opened this restaurant with the hope of bringing the same flavors and atmosphere to Ito.

Although the restaurant is especially popular with locals, the prices are reasonable, and above all, the warm hospitality of the owner makes the experience special.
If you are visiting Ito, this is definitely a place worth stopping by.
