The southern coast of Izu boasts white sandy beaches that make you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise! With the Odoriko Express, you can reach Izukyu-Shimoda from Tokyo in about two and a half to three hours.
While getting to the beach in Shimoda typically requires a taxi or bus, Nabeta Beach is just a 25-minute walk from the station if you’re up for it.
As you can see in the video, this cove has calm waters, making it perfect for families with small children.
Additionally, there is a small river and rocky area where you can enjoy river play and rock pooling. It’s rare to find a spot where you can enjoy the sea, a river, and rock pools all at once!
Local children often play on this beach as well.
There is one public restroom available. Be cautious if you’re driving as parking is quite limited (and paid).
This beach is ideal for families with young children. However, if your child struggles with long car or train rides, I also recommend Tomata Beach in Usami, which reduces travel time by about an hour.
Though the sand is brown, it has been softened by the waves over many years. It’s a natural beach with no imported sand.
Enjoy a wonderful summer in Izu with your family!
